In the debate in the Senate Finance Committee today, Max Baucus said repeatedly that he couldn't vote to add the public option to the bill because he didn't feel it could get 60 votes on the Senate floor with that provision, and he had to protect his legislation. But what is he protecting? What is in the Baucus bill, sans a public option, that is worth supporting? Brave New Films got Jerry Flanagan of Consumer Watchdog to explain the elements of Baucus-care without a public option, and it's not a pretty picture.
